I’ve designed this pattern to include 11 different sizes. Looking to make a throw blanket for your couch, you can! Need a smaller blanket for a baby shower ? No problem! You can easily make a lacy crochet baby blanket with this pattern. Either way, it makes the perfect gift!
What is Crochet Lace?
Crochet lace typically uses tall stitches paired with chains to make a fabric that is airy and has lots of movement.
While we often think of lace as being crocheted with a thinner yarn, that isn’t always the case. Thicker weights of yarn can definitely be used to create a crochet lace blanket.
While I’m not a huge fan of traditional lace blankets, I love this modern twist. It’s the perfect blend of airy and cozy.
Are Lacy Crochet Blankets Safe for Babies
You probably noticed that this lace crochet pattern includes baby sizes, and you might be wondering if lacy crochet blankets are safe for babies.
This is a question that I’ve heard a lot over the years.
It boils down to this: brand new babies aren’t supposed to sleep with or be left alone with blankets of any kind. This lacy crochet blanket is no different.
Once babies are 12 months old, the American Academy of Pediatrics says that it’s safe for babies to sleep with a blanket. By this time, babies are able to move their fingers and toes enough to get their little hands and feet out from between the stitches, too.
My mother-in-law made lacy baby blankets for each of my babies and they all started sleeping with them when they were little and still love them to this day.
About the Yarn
For this blanket I used 5 skeins of Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek in the shade Blush. The size chart at the end of pattern will tell you how many skeins of yarn you’ll need to purchase for each of the eleven sizes. If you’re like me, you’ll probably toss a couple extras into your cart, just in case.
This yarn comes in a pretty array of colors and washes well. I love the light blush, and was very happy with the way it worked up with this free pattern! If this neutral pink shade isn’t your style, the colors Sage and Silver Gray are also beautiful.
If you want to make this blanket extra soft, you could use a baby yarn. However, this blanket is perfectly cozy using a traditional worsted weight yarn.
Thinking about using a different weight yarn? You can. Just be sure to use the hook that is listed on the yarn label. You might remember that I typically recommend going UP at least one hook size, but when you have an open stitch pattern like this, it’s good to use a little bit smaller hook.

Adjusting the Size of This Blanket
I’ve added a chart on the following pages that lists 10 common sizes. If you choose to use a different yarn, please check the yardage per skein for your selected yarn to determine how many skeins you’ll need.
If you’d like to make this blanket a custom size, make your foundation chain an even number of stitches until you reach the width you like, and work until your blanket is as long as you want it.
