Color Block Blanket Crochet Pattern
As I’ve mentioned before, I love creating beautiful color block crochet blankets. However, many of them tend to be tedious and slow. Since I have crochet project ADD, this isn’t good for me. When I’m working on afghans or other blankets, I want to have something that’s going to work up relatively quickly and give me a lot of “bang for my buck” as far as time goes. This blanket does just that.
If you missed the first color block blanket that I posted, you’ll want to check that out before you go. You can find the free crochet pattern here.
Let me just start out by saying the stitch is a lot of fun and has a great texture. But, when you’re reading the pattern, it’s going to seem a little odd at first. Don’t despair – it’s not a difficult stitch and I created a video showing you exactly how to work the stitches. You can watch it below so please be sure to do so before you get started – or refer back to it as you’re working.
I used two different brands of yarn for this blanket. I used Vanna’s Choice yarn in the shade Mustard for the pop of color. For the other shades, I used Paint Box Simply Aran in Washed Teal, Misty Gray, and Champagne White. Despite the fact that I used warm and cool shades, I love the way these colors worked together. It took about 2 skeins of each for my blanket. It’s a child sized blanket or lapghan, in my opinion.
The free crochet pattern is right after these pictures.

If you started with a different starting chain, you might want to adjust the number of rows you complete with each color. I knew what measurements I wanted my blanket and that I wanted each block to be the same size so it was easy for me to figure out how many rows of each color to do.
If this pattern seems difficult for you to read, I encourage you to watch this video. It’ll help you understand exactly how to work the stitch and will get you well on your way to creating this crochet blanket.
If you’d like to make a small swatch like mine, chain 22 to begin. Work the foundation row as described, and then start the video.
Foundation Row: Beginning in the 4th chain, dc2tog all the way across.
If you prefer reading charts, here is a chart of this pattern. This is my first chart, so bear with me. I’ve been loving crochet charts lately, and have been wanting to try to create some myself. I bit the bullet today and decided to give it a try.
